Garlic in zone 7A

I would like to plant a mild and tasty hardneck garlic and looking for any recommendations. I live in zone 7A. Also where do you suggest I purchase the garlic for planting? Thanks.

I'm in 7b/8a, so no recommendations, but I would look at Baker Creek. I've been very happy with their seeds!

I am in an area that is more like 7a and 7b (borders). I have learned that softneck varieties are good for my area. Last year, I bought my garlic from Southern Exposure (Early Italian). I did well with the harvest.

Thank you both for your replies. I will check out Early Italian. I could not find it on the Southern Exposure websight but will try another.

Go to farmers markets and buy some local grown garlic. Get bulbs with large cloves.

If you go on line or to fancy nurserys You can buy fancy garlic pods for as much as 12 $ each or you can go to your local grocer or farmers market and buy what you would eat anyways. Farmers market is by far the best cause ya know it was growed locally and works well in your zone.

The Farmer's Market is a great idea. I did not need the amount of garlic that was required to be purchased online so this will work out much better. Thank you all for your comments. I am never disappointed with the responses and advice I receive on the SFG Forum.

Farmers markets are great places to get stuff to plant. You know it grows in your zone, and its usually much cheaper that way than to buy else where. It also helps who ever is selling. Just remember not all things are natural and will reproduce what ya bought. You hafta be careful that way and do a little research.
