Mel-mix Empty Mel-mix

Is it possible that my Mel-mix is to light/fluffy? All the plants that have been direct sowed corn, bush beans, soybeans are falling over. Other than laying on their side they appear to be healthy.

It sounds like they may be in soil that is too rich in nitrogen.  Sometimes high nitrogen content promotes very rapid green growth, and more comes on before the plant has had a chance to consolidate its gains by thickening its stems and branches.

My guess is that the mix may be manure-heavy, or have manure in it that wasn't composted well enough.  An excessive amount of coffee grounds could do the same thing.

Of course, it could also be the wind ... or a combo of both those factors.

It doesn't have to be either, but those are the first two things that come to mind.

I used the premixed Mel-mix sold at Home Depot and added compost also purchased from Home Depot.
