Ohio State Univ. says snow peas should be ready in this area about June 10, my little stash is cooperating, harvested a few this morning.  Scapes have been curling the past couple days. Some will go into hummus, the rest are stored till there's enough for  garlic scape soup.  Smile

Nice peas! Snowpeas and tomatoes are probably my favorite veggies.

Your scapes look my hair when I wake up in the morning.

Yummo! What will you do with those scapes? I used to put them in my hummus and soups.

So far, I don't grow snow peas, but still have garlic scapes frozen last year, and I'm already adding to the trove now.  Recipes, please!

And here is the garlic scape soup recipe I'm using

Garlic - Snow peas and garlic scapes Empty Re: Snow peas and garlic scapes

Post  plantoid 6/9/2015, 6:26 pm

On this side of the pond summer is now slowly  starting to happen . For a long time it's been cold and wet  with a few warmer dry days . Most of my beds are a month behind however my over wintered garlic's & over wintering onions have thrived beyond all hope .

Yesterday I noticed that the tops of the garlic were starting to yellow and they wanted to lay down. So I did an exploratory sub MM grope , finding much to my surprise a big garlic bulb of nearly 2 inches across.

Buoyed up by the find In harvested all the rest ..glad I did we have a great harvest of 50 or so bulbs which are now sunbathing for a few days till I plait them up . I have two types of garlic one white ( the big ones ) and white tinged with purple which are a bit smaller at around 1 & 1/4 " in diameter .

With not a scape insight.

The peas were put in the beds as pot grown plants of about 2 " in height some 10 days ago they are barely four inches tall at present . Last year I think I was picking my peas in mid May
