hello
I'm Erin from upstate New York, just read Mel's book and I am excited to start SFG with my family! I've been gardening weeds for years now so I'm looking forward to actually eating what I grow...I told my husband my plan and he just shakes his head ! Maybe I'll make a believer in him too.
Thanks! I'm just going to look around for a while!

Re: hello
Hi Erin ,
Welcome to the site .
Have you just decided to dip your toes in by visiting the website or will you be changing over to All new square foot gardening as per " Mel Bartholomew's proven system " .
If it's the latter , I offer that the books in my strap lines are worth their weight in gold , for as well as everyone singing the same songs from the same song sheet , we can easily point you to a solution to most ANSFG difficulties or mis-comprehensions .
On the left hand side of the home page there is a peachy sort of coloured " bobbly" line running from top to bottom click on it & it will take you to some of the more valuable areas of ANSFG .
I myself took a couple of weeks to read every single thread when I joined five or so years ago it was an interesting journey . One thing that is recommended is to get your own home made compost heap goings so as to get some decent home made compost to use in building your beds as it is the cheapest & best way .
A lot of us are using a slightly more technical method to make our composts , it is called " The Berkley 18 day hot composting method " . It can give fantastic quality home made compost in a very short time. If you're fit enough to turn over your compost heaps I suggest that you have a look at it , for it shows how you can compost almost everything that is capable of rotting down . There are plenty of lists in there as well to show what can be used .

Re: hello
Erin, Welcome to the Forum! As Marie stated, SFG is addictive. Few weeds, less water, higher yield per square feet, etc. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
