Delighted to have come across this forum.  I am a second-year square-foot-gardener from the San Francisco East Bay Area.  Last year's crop was pretty basic.  Looking forward to adding some glamor this year.

Alamobecky, Welcome to the Forum from Fresno! If I remember the weather, you have sunny summers. Please join in the Northern California & Coastal Valley topics. You are welcome to comment on any topic in any Region, but it's so nice when another "local" joins us. What glamorous varieties are you hoping to grow this summer?

Welcome to the forum Becky , whilst doing your square foot gardening have you been using  Mel Bartholomew's   All New Square Foot Gardening method as shown in my strap lines .

If not, I offer that having those two ( in date )  books will help you an awful lot , for we try and follow Mel's ideas quite closely as they & his  system works well all over the world .

If you haven;t started making your own quality composts to replenish your beds . We have a very useful index on the left side of the home page , click on the bobbly down line and the titles appear ,  check out the making your own compost threads or any that have compost in the title line .
If you have got going with making your own compost have you tried " The Berkely 18 day hot composting method . Again if not it's worth your weight in gold to have that system tucked safe in your head under your hat as it allows premium non smelly compost to be made at home in a very short time indeed ..which saves you many a dollar at the end of that day , plus you know what you've got in it rather than toxic stuff , broken glass & weedkillers etc etc. that often turns up in commercially produced  so called composts .

glad you\'re here AlamoBetty.  That must be where The Alamo is in San Antonio?  Have visited  there on two occasions so I actually know what you area is like. The second time we were one day away from having the water turned off due the the Acquafier reaching danger low point. That night we had a terrific storm that saved the day.
