SFG from Redding, CA
Hi All,
I'm a Master Gardener, Master Food Preserver, and 4-H Leader in Redding, CA. Sunset Zone 9. I like to call my suburban lot the Moore Ranch Growing Grounds and Research Station.
I discovered SFG about 2009. I have 3 raised for beds; two are 4'x20'x1' and one is 4'x30'x1' installed about 2008. I didn't feel I was making very good use of the beds and while researching came across SFG. I thought it made very good sense.
At that time I purchased the SFG Instructor materials intending to become certified but I never completed it. I got stalled at the video requirement although I am listed by the Foundation as an instructor. Maybe they will let me complete it without buying new materials.
I have used the SFG materials to lead a 4-H gardening project (in my front yard) and to give presentations at Master Gardener meetings. I will be giving a basic gardening presentation featuring SFG for the Shasta County Public Health in March.
In the pictures below you may also notice that I have a backyard orchard as well. They are planted 4 trees to a 4'x4' box and I try to remember to summer prune them for size control. My next project in gardening is grafting. I want to top work one of the apricot trees that gets pit burn and graft an old unknown variety of plum on to semi-dwarf rootstock.

from the cold and wintery northeast. You've got lots of gardening time in your area and I see you're enjoying it.
Your garden looks lovely. Keep up the good work.

bmoore49. You have an impressive CV. Hope to learn a lot from you.
I hope to do more preserving this coming year.
Like Quiltbea, I am from a cold and snowy area but the other side of the continent in British Columbia.

Hi, BMoore, from Atlanta, GA!
Wow, I'm impressed already... You'll find that we talk a lot of stuff about canning & food preservation in addition to the gardening. So I'm glad you're a Master Food Preserver. (Unfortunately, they don't offer that in GA...)
Of course, we talk about a bunch of other things too... And have a lot of fun laughing at/with ourselves and our friends about stuff that happens in our gardens & homes.
Welcome!
