Potato plant berries?

Potato plant berries?
Today I noticed my potato plants are growing berry type buds. I did a search and apparently I can grow a "true" potato plant from the seeds. The plant would have small yield with very small spuds, but one source suggested it's better to cut them off so the plant can devote energy to develop spuds. Thoughts?

My Yukon Gold potatoes seem to always develop potato fruit. But not on all the plants just a couple seem to do this each year. I leave them alone and get plenty of potatoes. You've got me curious so now I will pay close attention to the size of potatoes that come from fruited plants. I'm still harvesting so I'll let you know what I find.

I found this instructions on this page very interesting and might try it as an experiment (1/2 way down the page).

Hope that experiment works out for you!
I enjoy going to the garden center to pick individual seed potatoes from the bin. I grow everything else from seed so its nice to go and visit the garden center once in awhile.

That is very cool looking. Potatoes are related to tomatoes, but I never saw how closely until now. I wonder what the fruit tastes like -- or if it's actually poisonous.

Marc, I read they are poisonous, but if you follow the link above the page includes a interesting experiment that could end with seed potatoes. I haven't decided yet whether to cut them off and leave the plant energy devoted to the spuds.

I bought my seed potatoes at the garden center this year. The roots are so dense I can't get in to find any new potatoes, so I'm going to have to wait until they die off at the end of August to see what I have. It's a mystery!

This year I got a little digital kitchen scale. Thought it would be fun to weigh and record the weight of harvested potatoes . I planted all Yukon golds and harvested over 11 pounds of spuds so far. I think that's from 2-1/2 squares. I planted a total of 5-1/2 squares. I'm in the middle of cooking at the moment so I'll have to check the number of empty squares later on.
