I was asked to do a tutorial on trellis web weaving.
I am posting just photos as I have no one to hold the phone camera to make a video.

Wow! Easy peasy! Thanks, Camp. Altho I seem to have forgotten all my knot knowledge learned during my sailing days. Are those slipknots at the top and bottom? Also what type of knots are at the cross sections?

at the top are overhand loop knot around the taut horizontal lines at top and bottom.. The horizontal spacing lines have single half hitches that hold the vertical lines at the appropriate space from each other.CapeCoddess wrote:Wow! Easy peasy! Thanks, Camp. That looks awesome and will totally work. I use sisal twine with mine so that after harvest I either cut or uproot the plants, cut the sidelines and finally the top strings and compost the whole sheet of vines, twine and all.

I used heavy cotton twine which is easier on my fingers.
Since I typed the word crocked, no one will believe I only had ice tea!

I just finished making to the worlds crockedest and useless trellis. .. and I don't drink spirits.
Hints to those going to make a trellis:
number 1 - read the tutorial above before you do it. I didn't, thinking I'd remember it and I did it totally wrong.
number 2 - don't use bamboo stakes. They bend as your attaching the twine and everything becomes floppy.
when we have the world's ugliest trellis contest I'll post a photo.

Very impressive. But it reminds me of sewing or knitting and neither ability was gifted to my genetics..

This reminds me of my Dad stringing a trellis for the beans back in 1948. We had a tobacco farm and therefore a supply of twine and "tobacco" sticks. Daddy would put in a stick about every 3 ft and then use this 3 horizontal line, multiple vertical line weave that looked like a series of Vs every 2". Guess I just learned from him.

Thanks, Teach. I wish I had a flat wood shuttle instead of chasing a dropped ball of string. Also, the ball can't be threaded in tight spaces. For riight now, I wrap the string around a flattened TP roll!
My dad made one for me 55 years ago for a small home made loom. Wish I still had it.
