Thanks, I have been so worried about all of them. I kind of baby all of it. I have never had my own garden, or seen a tomatillo grow. Will the fruit develop in the lantern?

Boy am I jealous! We had 37 degrees last night and you're growing beans and tomatillos so nicely already!
The tomatillo fruit will indeed grow inside the lantern, eventually filling it up and sometimes even bursting it. Fruit growth can come in fits and starts, though, sometimes idling for a while even after the lantern has long since gotten good-sized.

Beautiful garden beds. I especially like the wooden trellis.

Everything is looking great!
How is the Hardie board working out as box material?

Re: SFG May 2014 Picture heavy
I assume your talking about the cement board. It works real good for a deeper bed, you just can't staple or nail the grid in place, due to it splitting the boards. I have to lay in the grid.boffer wrote:Everything is looking great!

I like the wooden trellis as well. Much better then my 2" square wire stuff that is a pain when I have to clear it in the fall. Even worse when I leave it until spring.

Cajun.....Thanks for sharing your garden pix. It makes those of us in the north have something to enjoy in their near future now that spring has sprung. Great pix.

Perfect lettuce, radish, peas and spinach planting weather. When is your last average frost? I suspect tomatoes, cukes, beans, and peppers will have to wait a while.Drpepperz wrote:Very nice! I Think i,m going to retire somewhere warm someday! Still in the low teens C here...(59F on avg)

Very lovely, Cajun! I too love the wooden bean trellis. What are the grids made of? And how long do you think they will last?

X2, everything looks so nice, green and healthy!! There is a threat about tomatillos. I understand they ripen around august. The lantern will turn brown. Someone said to wait til the fruit comes off with minimal effort. We'll find out soon!!
When I get home from work, I tell my wife I'm going to check on my babies. I go in the back yard to work on my garden. My wife was talking to a coworker and the coworker called her plants her babies. My wife said, "hey! That`s what my husband calls his plants." If you don't sfg, you don't get it...right??

A friend of mine owns a flooring company, and the is the scrap leftovers. Most of the wood is red oak and walnut. It's not treated, and chemicals have never touched them except through rain.
With that thought they may not last but a season or two, but I can get all I want, and the cost is zero. I was going to go with the netting trellis, but I thought this would be more attractive plus its free,
