I started my first garden with the first edition of Square Foot Gardening when I was 14. I have gardened with Mel's methods for 30 years, with a few years off when I lived in an apartment. (But I did grow pole beans on the balcony.)

When I saw All New Square Foot Gardening, I was skeptical, first that SFG could be improved on, and second that all these changes were worth making. After trying them, I am convinced!

I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and information with other Square Foot Gardeners!

welcome DK!  What do you have planned for your ANSFG for the coming season?  I suspect that in Milwaukee you are still under a white blanket like I am here in SD, so still in the dreaming and planning stage.

Welcome!  We're not that far apart, I'm south of Madison.  I grew up in Waukesha county.  Good see another southern WI person on the forum!  And we're most certainly under a blanket of snow--2013-2014 is shaping up to be the coldest winter in quite some time here.

I just moved to a new house. I had hoped to move my beds and as much Mel's mix and compost as I could shovel out, but the move happened earlier than I expected—January 1—everything was frozen to the ground—so I'm starting over. The good news is that I can make some changes I'd been wanting to make at the old place that just seemed like too much work with the beds I had in place.

This year, I want to grow basil, oregano, thyme, peppermint, lemon grass, garlic, chives, sugar snap peas, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, tomatoes and strawberries. I'm looking for a local source of red wigglers so I can start a vermicompost bin indoors and have some compost in time for spring. (I could buy them online, but the shipping is too high.)

Go to redwormcomposting.com
The owner of the site is Bentley Christie.  You can email him for a good source of wigglers in your area.
I believe there is a website that is still working called findworms.com  which may be another option for you.  Good Luck!

I checked, and it is 80 miles from here. I just bought some worms on eBay with free shipping.

If you're interested there's some worm topics on this forum. Use the white search box above. There's some really nice books and worm websites too. Keep us posted on your worm journey, some of us around here have worm bins and tubes.
