Black Ants Eating Eggplant
I search around the forum and seems many people have had issues with ants one time or anther. Has anyone seen big black ants eating, yes eating, their eggplant. These guys are boring holes right into the fruit and destroying them.
Any technique better than another? Coffee grinds, corn meal, DE, flame thrower...etc.
Thanks,
Bill

So sorry to hear about those nasty ants! I have heard the corn meal works good and I think it would be fine to sprinkle it right in the bed next to a plant. I have used cinnamon but I don't know if it would be good to use it inside the bed next to a plant.

Tricia, can you explain why you wouldn't use cinnamon next to the plant. Because it is in itself a food product, there is no food safety issues. I've not had to use it in my veggies, but I have used it in my flower beds right on top of plants and they have not died back or anything. Just curious.

You may choose to use some type of paper or plastic bag? Would a Zip-lock plastic bag work?

I would have no problem using the cinnamon inside the bed - it is just powdered tree bark (altho' great-smelling and great-tasting, except to some pests!).Triciasgarden wrote:... I have used cinnamon but I don't know if it would be good to use it inside the bed next to a plant.
