Thanks, yet in the next box over, a squash seed from the same packet was planted and it grew all of 6 inches and one sickly flower and bit the dust. You just never know Razz

Hi Gina, looks liking that garden is kicking into high gear now and that squash is AWESOME!

I like the sunflowers as they add nice color to the setting. I have never grown sunflowers before and am thinking of putting them on my list for next year. What exactly is the beneficial reason for them other than their astonishing beauty?

I am in the process of tearing out my plants and putting them in the compost pile and readying my beds for some fall plantings, albeit ever so slow due to my recent medical setback. Slow it may be, I am making daily progress little by little and even adding 2 new beds with MM. Another 8'X4'X8" and a 10'X2'X8".

Between the SVB & the PM it doesn't look good for me this year. Next year I'm buying PM resistant varieties. Twisted Evil

About the sunflowers, other than being quite cheerful, the other benefit is they draw bees like crazy. This is the first year in 3 where I've had so many bees. This is also the first year having a variety of flowers, sunflowers, borage, coriander flowers, petunias, marigolds then the clover that unexpectedly grew around the boxes. I'm thinking the vegetable flowers can't get away from a good workout from their little buddies. I'm very encouraged and next year will plant a variety of flowers again maybe around the boxes instead of taking up good space inside. We'll see.

Thanks Gina, I thought it might have a purpose of that nature, but never really knew for sure. My bee population really struggled this year and it was very scary. I will plan on adding some sunflowers (and other flowers) next year in hopes of drawing more bees to my gardens and like you, I think I will plant outside of my boxes to conserve growing space. Thanks again for your wonderful insight.
