Hello from Singapore
Hi everyone!
I've had a keen interest in gardening since I was young but due to my travels and life, it's only now that I've finally be able to plant my roots down as it were.
I've been doing as much reading as I can about SFG but I was hoping to share my journey here and pick up some lessons from everyone else along the way.
I'm planning on starting a series of rail/balcony planters using the SFG methodology so wish me luck!

Re: Hello from Singapore
Good luck, Merelydicta! And !
You should have an easy time of it in Singapore. My memory of it is as a city in a garden...so lovely.
Post photos of your journey with SFG if you get a chance. We'd love to see them.

Welcome to the SFG Forum.
This is a good site for sharing, and getting support and information. As part of your reading, do you have a copy of the ALL New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew?
Again, Welcome.

Re: Hello from Singapore
Hi CC - thanks for the warm welcome I plan to document my progression and will try to share my journey here as I notice there isn't much for a Singaporean presence or a significant SFG movement here in Singapore (more's the pity).
Hi Sanderson - thank you for the welcome. I've read the ANSFG cover to cover - pure genius!
However I was wondering if anyone here could tell me if there is a significant difference between the material of ANSFG and SMG (which I saw shrink wrapped at a local book store). Coming from Singapore, it would obviously be easier to work off the metric as opposed to the imperial system but I've sort of done my own workaround by working in squares of 30cm by 30cm (slightly less than a foot).
I'd love to hear any and all thoughts about starting out in a SFG tropical garden (I guess the closest analogy would be a zones 10-12) but I guess as with most things in life, the principle of solvitor ambulando rules the day.

Welcome Merelydicta!
Unless Mel has kept a few secrets from those of us still using the 12" ruler, my understanding is that SMG is the same method, just adapted to the measurements of the metric system. The plants really don't care if they have a cm less or extra!

Re: Hello from Singapore
Hi Goosegirl,
Thanks for the welcome and for the information on the SMG/SFG thing.
What I more or less ended up with is thinking in metric about the imperial if that makes sense but I always had that lingering doubt that a slight variance one way or the other might throw things off (an occupational hazard for me ).
Looking forward to this new gardening adventure!
