Last year in July of all times, I made my first square foot garden. I had heard a friend raving about it and when I went on a local garden tour, one of the stops was having an entire talk all about it. That was it! I needed to find out what all the hype was about. I hadn't had the best garden for the last few years and wanted to try something new. I borrowed the book and then ended up getting my own copy. I couldn't believe how well stuff did in Maine, started so late in the season! That first year I had tons of lettuce, carrots, basil, catnip, and beans galore.

Here's this year:

My first box:

Floating row cover to stop the awful cabbage worms I get every year! This is the box's second year and things are already coming up. Even tho the soil is a little low, things do great in there.

Peas up already!

I got so excited last year and have been asking my darling husband for years to build a greenhouse to extend the season. He didn't even use any type of plans, just made it up as he went along. I removed the old raised bed and we put in two sq ft beds outside the house.

I had fun making fencing (not quite finished) with "free" wood.

Inside the house there is a long two deep bed and I put the trellis along the back wall for the climbers which will go in the back row.

Seedlings are sooo happy in here.

Great looking set up. I'm envious of the greenhouse. Would love to see some photos later in the season when everything is growing. Very Happy

Oh, how dreamy to have a greenhouse, and one big enough to have a garden inside....wow. It's wonderful.

Absolutely gorgeous, I'm green with envy! This gives me some ideas on how to build my own. Would mind me asking the cost of supplies to build it? Please continue to post more pics.
Thanks,
Rebecca

I'll have to admit, it wasn't cheap. I'd have to go thru receipts to be exact, but here is a quick estimate.

The plastic corrugated siding and corrugated insulation were around 600.00

The wood was in the 200.00 range

paint (primer and 2 coats of green) was around 90.00

screws 30.00

two temp controlled vents (not installed yet) 80.00

three small solar fans (not installed yet) 50.00

I have been saving for this for years, a real dream come true for me. Also, really couldn't have happened without my husband's awesome skills at building things. We based the size on the sizes of the plastic panels so there was as little waste as possible from cuts. It really worked out well. It's 10 x 12 feet, so it's pretty big. I really aim to try and grow/harvest most of the year.

I love that greenhouse! Where can you get the corrugated siding and insulation? Is it sold at home depot / Lowes or do you order from a special greenhouse supply store? Fabulous job!

I've seen clear corrugated siding at both Lowe's and Home Depot in my area. It's usually on the lumber aisle in the back corner of the store (at least around here).

We got it here at a local lumber supply store, but I didn't check at Lowe's or HD. It comes in clear and a semi clear, we got the clear.

And, heck yeah there are chairs in there! It's my mini vacation spot right now. I hope at some point the chairs don't fit, but it's so fun to go in there when it's 40ºF or 50ºF outside and 80ºF - 100ºF in there. I grew up in the south so it's therapeutic for me.
