Actually I think they're longer than that maye eight feet. But how does a tripod help the plant? Do I tie the tomato to it or something? Trying to visualize.

I just went to Lowes and bought some tomato cages. I got them to fit. They're 48 inches so I guess it leaves a few feet hanging but at this point I think it works and avoided some catastrophe of my not knowing how to construct frames, etc.

Glad you got the cages hope they work out for you. As for the tripod you could use string to suspend the vines or to tie the plant to it. I would use old panty hose strips for tying with.
