Re: Hi Everyone
I loved my visits to your city. Did the Waterford Crystal tour and bought some replacement items.
First rule of success, get a copy of the book ALL NEW GARDENING. There is a second edition available now (Feb 2013), but the 1st edition is what most of use on the forum use right now. Available from Amazon if not in any of your gardening shops.
Second rule of success. Start a compost pile. Compost is a 1/3 part of the great soiless growing mixture we advocate using. Store bought is fine to get started with but homemade is the best in the long run.

Re: Hi Everyone
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Thanks Walshevac for your kind comments
Started composting bought a composting bin for the job so fingers crossed. Is the book by " Mel Bartholomew " ??
I have four raised beds and a small leanto glasshouse.
This is my first year. All's going well just weather unnaturally cold so putting off planting out for a week or so.

Hi bjohn ,
welcome to the site .
The book details are in my strap lines .
Have you guys still got a couple of feet of snow lying around the place ??
If so , whilst your waiting for it to warm up , have a peek in the main index and and in the bobbly bits on the left side of the home page .
Look deeply into the compost threads it is the back bone of our system and as one thread tile suggests " how strong is your back bone " . The more you understand how to get a balanced multiple material compost the more success you will have with your square foot gardens and green house growing.

Re: Hi Everyone
Thank you all for the lovely welcome.
No planetoid I live in the southeast of the country and we've got little or no snow just very cold and a lazy wind.
I have started a compost heap, but that is for the future there is very little in this at the moment, not really started that long yet. I purchased a very good book on the subject.
I have purchased the book "All New Square Foot Gardening "it will be delivered in a week or 10 days.
Thanks jazzycat and Victoria for the welcome.
Just thinking walshevak the next time you come to visit Waterford you will have another place to visit, looking forward to that.
Hey Triciagarden you must find more information about your ancestors.
