Redwood Boxes, Seal or Not To Seal? Empty Redwood Boxes, Seal or Not To Seal?

Hiya folks! Redwood Boxes, Seal or Not To Seal? Icon_biggrin

OK, I bought redwood for my boxes because it is supposed to be termite resistent. I'll be putting together a 3' x 12' x 6" box, using soaker hose to water. Should I apply water sealant on the outside of the redwood box or not? Will sealing it defeat the purpose of using redwood? We don't get alot of rain here in El Paso, TX.

Hopefully I'll have some pics up soon showing our progress! Redwood Boxes, Seal or Not To Seal? Icon_sunny

Redwood Boxes, Seal or Not To Seal? Empty red or silver

If you want the wood to keep the red tint go ahead and seal it. If you want the aged silver color let it go for a few seasons then seal it up.

I guess my question should be if I apply water sealant to the box will it weaken or defeat the natural ability of the wood to deter termites and other pests? Redwood Boxes, Seal or Not To Seal? 601593 Redwood Boxes, Seal or Not To Seal? Icon_smile
