Refrigerator cucumber salad

I came across ths recipe that sounds & looks so good and simple. Anyone tried this?

sweet refrigerator pickles are an old southern tradition. every woman in my family, as far back as i can remember, made these pickles the morning before any big family celebration--thanksgiving, easter, reunion, etc. the recipe in your link is nearly identical to the way most people here make them, except that most of us don't boil the brine, we just stir it until the sugar dissolves. and instead of red peppers, many people here (me included/especially) use radishes.

I think I am going to go home and try this after work! Rowena, thank for the idea of radishes instead of onions! I will have to give that a try!

We do this too, but with less sugar, and instead of peppers we use finely sliced tomatoes. Yummmmm!

I'm going to try it with peppers & radishes.
