Wow, certainly the hottest it's been in southern Wisconsin in sometime. The last time we hit 100 was 1995. It's 102 and still climbing. I noticed a few of my onions starting to bolt (just starting to send up seed stalks), so I harvested despite the green tops still had some growth to give. Anyone else having the heat do things like that to their onions? Still got some nice baseball/softballs, but a lot of racquet and tennis balls. The onions are tied up and hanging in the garage near garlic, which did very well this year, I harvested that about June 25, 2 1/2 weeks earlier than usual.

My onions are golf ball size (that's pushing it) or smaller. We haven't hit the 100s yet but I have had that happen before when then were teeny like mine are now. Good you were on top of it and were able to harvest!

I have had problems with the heat as well. My brocolli was good but barely harvested my cauliflower and still have some cabbage in my garden but it doesn't look like I will get much if any.

Never seen such a warm spring or hot early summer in my life and will try planting some of these crops in the late summer.

Wonder if the first frost will be pushed back????

Since I had 24 broccoli plants, my harvest was good for them and the earwigs didn't find them til they were mostly done producing! They found the cauliflowers though and destroyed it!

Do you think the frost will be pushed back? That would be nice in a way.

My broccoli was the best of my spring crops, cauliflower was so-so and the cabbage will not yield much.

Planted some more seeds for both brocolli and cauliflower for the fall and they have germinated and under the lighs now.

One downside of growing these close to tomatoes is it makes hard to prune my tomaoes as it was difficult to see all the suckers I missed at the base of those toms.

I pulled onions over the last few days here in Kansas City...temps have been near or over 100 degrees for over a week. No bolting but the tops had fallen over. Some onions looked great...others put on very little growth since being planted around four months ago.
