Sad puny carrots...
I planted carrots around 2-26-12. Seed packet said maturation between 60-90 days. Decided to pull a few yesterday and see my current results and these have to be the smallest most ragged looking carrots I have ever seen.
My box is 4x4, 8inches deep though the mix settled to around 6.5 or so. The carrots arent even as big around as my pinky and most are an inch or two long. Do I need to give them a couple more weeks or do I have some kind of deficiency?

You probably need more phosphorous it helps develops roots. No growing medium is perfect. MM may be close to perfection but in my opinion one of the things it lacks sometimes is phosphorous.

If the mix is heavy on nitrogen they will grow all top and little root and the roots will be hairy.

Re: Sad puny carrots...
Planted mine in Nov and started getting salad size about mid March. I am getting mostly bigger than my thumb except the crowded ones that little finger size. Short and sqatty in my 6" of MM. They are Scarlet Nantes and very tasty. Now they are sharing space with a kale plant as I pull a few every day. Some of the remaining ones seem to be increasing with size and splitting as I pull and give them more space. Note to self, thin the carrot week carrots in the pots.

Re: Sad puny carrots...
Guess I am just going to give them more time. One box had carrot tops probably twice the size of the other box. Once my compost pile finally gets done ill be able to add homemade nutrients.
In the mean time I got all the makings for 4x4 number 3...
