Garlic/pepper sprays & eating produce?

I've seen various recipes for garlic and pepper sprays to keep deer and other critters away from the garden. Since they tend to wash away in the rain, can we just wash the produce off in water before eating?

Or does it need special washing before eating? I've not tried these homemade sprays (or any sprays for my veggies), but I'd hate for kids to end up with a mouth full of horrible tasting spray when one reason we're growing the garden is to encourage them to eat more veggies.

Even though I grow organic vegetables I always wash my produce before eating it, unless it's a radish or a pea pod pinched whilst working in the garden. Very Happy

I have seen vegetable wash solutions for sale but I have never used them. It's either a rinse and a scrub or on occasion a bit of plain old dish soap and a good rinse will help.

+1. I did take a case of the organic Veggie Wash with me when I lived overseas and I use it on store bought stuff sometimes. But usually just as Camprn says.
