Lavender Empty Lavender

Post  Bluphrog 5/13/2012, 1:54 pm

Chappell Hill Lavender Farm has a Mother's Day special for moms to come and cut a bundle of lavender for free running yesterday and today. Since I had found CHLF on the web back in November, I have been patiently waiting to visit. So, I talked hubby into taking me there (it's about a 2 hour drive from Porter, and I hate to drive). He bought me 4 lavender plants for one of my Mother's Day presents, and on the way home we picked up everything we needed to plant them in pots. According to the instructions I got with the plants, they should do fairly well -- full sun and slightly dry soil, which means that I can judiciously neglect them. But they're on the front "porch" and I will pass them everytime I leave or come home.

I foudn out two thing I didn't know about lavender. One is that it is a natural bug repellent, and two was that you can cook with the lavender buds. I haven't made anything yet, but may get adventurous.

Lavender Empty Re: Lavender

Post  Coelli 5/13/2012, 1:56 pm

I love lavender! I especially love it in food - lavender Earl Grey tea is wonderful. At our local farmer's market, the ice cream truck has a lavender honey ice cream, and the goat farm makes a lavender pear goat cheese.

Although my focus right now is getting the vegetable garden up and running in the back, I want to plant lots and lots of lavender throughout the front yard.

Enjoy your new lavenders! Even the leaves are fragrant.. Smile
