Who is this and what do I do with him?
I was examining my garden this morning and after I got over my excitement at finding TEENY flower buds on my cherry tomato I found this guy:
Sorry it's sideways, I haven't figured out why my computer insists on putting my photos that way when they're clearly upright on my phone. ANYWAY, I don't know if I should be squashing him or letting him be. He looks like he's related to a grasshopper or whatever, which inclines me to bring out the axe & hood.

LOL, cameras & phones will often compensate for the way you took the photo, and display it the way you can see the most of it. My camera is landscape. When I take something portrait (so I turn the camera 90*) it displays it 'skinny' in landscape again.
When I move it to my computer, I then rotate it with the viewer, and it stays in portrait mode on the computer.
ANYWHO...is it acrane fly? I can't see enough of it to tell. Crane flies are harmless. The look like big mosquitos, and are one of the first bugs of spring. I often find them hanging out on the side of a rose blossom.

I saved the photo and zoomed in...the youngins say it could be a cricket. Antenae are too short for a grasshopper.

Yeah, if it was a cranefly I would've known it. So, he has this funky looking sucker mouth on it...do I get rid of him or leave him be?

Hummmmm, looks similar to a type of cricket I have found indoors, but can't remember the name. Call me cruel and heartless, but I'd stomp it. It's a cold cruel world.

Dip in well beaten egg white , then in icing sugar and eat it .... they are protein ..if your here next week you know what to do with any more you find.

It's called Natural Selection, Grandpop...if he's stupid enough to try to feast on my plants, he doesn't survive!
