Blueberry question

I have a bunch of blueberry bushes and they're covered with little white things that I think are blueberries.We're having a frost tonight so I covered them with plastic bags.We are also having strong winds.If these bags get torn off overnight,will the frost kill all the berries?

Did they bloom already?

If it's the bloom(white+pink ) then it may set them back, but I don't think a light frost will hurt too much.

If they have finished blooming, and the berries are already on, then it probaby won't hurt them. My berries are on and they are green, not white. My blooms are sort of white and pink.

I'm not sure.They look like greenish white deflated blueberries.I didn't notice any flowers on them,just leaves.

I'm not an expert on blueberries, I know that there are many varieties, Some have white blooms, some (mine) have white and pink. Depends on your weather, but my berries are just now coming on. It may be the berries, but it prob is the bloom just starting. Most will make it thru a frost. the wind blowing is a plus, for it won't freeze as hard as if it was still with no wind. Be sure to take off the plastic in am for it could cook the plants during the day. It is late now, so it is a waiting game. Hope they bear well for you!

I've got two trees going right now where the white corollas are starting to fall off. However, there are no green fruits left behind. Do these come after?

A wonderful discovery   We had scored 4 lil blue berry bushes on sale last fall stuck them along the fence mulched them with oak chips and kinda forgot about them.  Last afternoon I discovered we had lots of baby blue berries!!   I hurriedly made some chicken wire cages for them so the birdies wouldn't get them.  Not like the birdies aint got plenty else to eat right now.

Didn't look like it from the MSU article, but give it a while, maybe they are just really small and not filling out yet. First year plants?

York, if you don't see baby berries in a few days, they probly won't be coming this year. If they ARE 1st year plants, not to worry. They can take some time to get established.

I've got a few and once the flowers fall off, the berries show fairly quickly. Tiny & green, but definitely berries.

They're cousins to azalea's, so they like acid. I use pine bark nuggets as mulch & fertilizer. A couple of the bushes are hitting 7 feet tall. They're about 5 years old now... My wild NH blueberry is finally showing flowers. It's about 3 years old. Unfortunately, the other one didn't make it thru the winter. It was VERY small when we brought it down here. I think it just couldn't handle the transfer from lakefront NH to Atlanta clay.

Also, did you get different varieties for cross-pollination?

Cappy, good idea on the cages! I use plastic snakes. I move them around every day to keep the birds away. But I'd prefer to get some netting or something. Even with the snakes, the birds think it's an all-you-can-eat buffet, lol!

A-Marie, My wife came home with one climax and so I went back to store and got another for pollination. This time an Alapaha. I used organic humus and peat moss when planting and have used oak leaves and pine straw as mulch to help with acidity. 

I purchased these from Lowe's so I'm not sure how old they are but I would assume they start selling them at least a couple years old, correct?

I bought four two-year old bushes, and had a few berries last year, about a cup-full but I am looking forward to having more this year. 

They have all survived the winter, and yesterday, after weeding around the patch I added mycorrhizal fungus,  pine needles and shredded oak leaves. Then today it poured with rain and I was one happy camper.

York, that should be correct. They also go thru transplant shock, so be sure to baby them for a while. :-)
