Can Cats Be Added to the Compost?
I was outside today just checking out some things(filling the bird feeders, checking on the progress of spring bulbs, etc) and I noticed a big ball of grey fur behind the compost bin. At first I thought, "Wow, there's a dead animal behind their!", so I got a stick and gave it a poke. Well that's when I saw the tail twitch a few times. I poked it again and it started backing out from behind the bin and then that's when I noticed it was a cat. He climbed up the back of the bin and over the top and took off like a rocket.
It was the funniest thing I've seen in a while.
I'm almost tempted to keep a dish of cat food outside. I want to encourage him to stick around my house in case I have an issue with voles again this year.

Except for the fact that cats think Mel's Mix makes a great litter box and have been know to dig it up & leave deposits.

It might've been soaking up the heat from the compost also.. I know our cats love when the woodstove's going... They each have their own spot to lay when its just right...lol

I don't think this cat was laying their for warmth. He was really stuck. LOL My guess is that he was stalking the birds that hang out at the feeder at the back of my house.

Forget my idea then. I don't want anything messing around with my garden this year. I had a heck of a time with voles 2 years ago.

He might have been hunting also... might have gotten stuck doing so...

You're probably right about that. There are chipmunks, moles, voles that run around the outside.

Re: Can Cats Be Added to the Compost?
I thinned out my problem of chipmunks at my old place with the help of my airgun:twisted: ...
They were playing havoc with my cherry tomatoes, along with other plants.. I set up a good position from the bathroom window and within 2 days had taken care of I think 15 or so chipmunks.. The little rascals had a path worn in the grass of how they came and went to the garden...lol

Re: Can Cats Be Added to the Compost?
A few years ago I had a problem with a chipmunk stealing my cherry tomatoes. He was actually climbing up the plant to get at the ripe ones near the top.
I took care of him with a glue trap.
