1,000 or 2,000? Empty 1,000 or 2,000?

Hi all
I'm getting ready to order my herd of worms, and have the opportunity to get either 1000 or 2000. The cost is roughly $19 for the 1000 or $40 for the 2000. Shipping is $10.95 on the 1000 or $4.99 on the 2000.

I've read most of the topics regarding worms, and it looks like 1000 can go into one of the rubbermaid totes (10 gal?). If I go with the 2000, would it be better to have two bins or an 18 gallon bin (tote)? I don't plan to put any of these in the garden itself, as I have a lot of native earthworms, and am reluctant to release non-natives into the environment. (although I will probably put some in the tomato bin since it's not open to the ground itself)

If I put some into the tomato bin, which is 2x8' and has 12" of MM in it, how many should go in it? Or... should I put any in it at all?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated Smile

Personal opinion, I only have about 500 in a two 18 gal tote Hilton and I'm new to the worm herding. Think Josh started with less than that. I say go for the 1000, and in 3-5 months you may have double. I'm already dreaming about a second tote Hilton.

I ordered a thousand to start with and put them in a 20 gal plastic bin for starters.
