One other point. You mentioned your going to have your garden slope at one end. If there is any way you can build it with a bottom and then elevate that or add soil to elevate the box on that end, I'd encourage that. The boxes really need to be level or the water will tend to run out the tops and take the MM with it. This is especially the case if you get a deluge of rain.
However you do end up, it will be a learning experience. There are always things to learn and do differently the next time.

I'm removing the sod from under the box, this is where I was planning on doing the slope underground. the box itself would be level. I'm also putting that solar blanket underneath it as a bottom except for the drainage in the one end. The drainage would be under the potato box in the middle.

I wish I had as much space!
In my small garden the walkway is only 21.5" wide; believe me, that's too narrow! However, I had no choice, since I had to utilize the sunniest corner of my yard.

Well the solar pool blanket I was going to use is toast would a woven tarp work or should I just go with the landscaping stuff you put down, or maybe plywood, I'm trying to keep the cost down on this part of it because I don't want to skimp on the vermiculite and other ingredients in the Mels mix.
