I wanted to try and grow watermelon on a vertical trellis. So far it actually seems to be going good. I have two melons that are about the size of baseballs and two about the size of golf balls. My question is what should I use, or what do you recommend I use to support them on the trellis? I know they won't make it much longer without some kind of external support.

As scary as that sounds, I thought of it. Didn't want to look like a crazy person though. Smile

This may be a silly question, but how do you use the panty hose to support the melons? Do you put the melons in the hoses? Cradle them like the melons are in a hammock?

You cut off a leg from the pantyhose, then slide the young melon into the leg. Tie the leg below the melon and then tie the top of the leg to your trellis. Don't worry the pantyhose will expand. Just don't use support hose. Laughing
