trellis system for melons in 5 gal. buckets.
Hey folks, been a while since I last post. Everything is doing a lot better now. things got off to a sluggish start, but I now have tomatoes, cucumbers, much lettuce, squash, berries, etc.
However, not sure if you remember but I did plant some Sugar Baby Watermelons and different cantaloupes in 5 gal. buckets that are now bearing baby fruits. They are growing fast though and I need to get some sort of ladder systems in the 5 gal. bucket for them.
Any suggestions?
Maya

An old ladder might be the best thing, or build one yourself. Here is one we made for our winter squash out of scrap wood. You still need to supplement with twine to train it up the ladder, but it does get them off the ground.
Today it looks like this:
Note that there are only three plants per squash ladder. People stop by when we are out in our garden, just to see what we are growing on them!

I used PVC and a piece of chain linked fence from Craigslist (or maybe it was freecycle)
