It may be late but I would love to have a garden this year and can buy seedlings that have already been established to help things along.
I am just confused about how many plants of each kind to put in each square and where to orient the different plants in the bed and which veggies are harder to grow. In the bit of reading I have done I know to plant the taller plants to the north and shorter ones to the south.
For a family of 3 (that also likes to freeze and can things for winter consumption) how many SFG's would I need if I was planting things like: lettuce, spinach, swiss chard, peas, beans, carrots, beets, onions, zucchinis, tomatoes, squash, and melons?

mmccauley-brown-you've asked so many questions with your short post, you have no idea, lol. There are so many things involved, you have to read the book to get the answers to all your questions. That plus the forum here and experience. So, that is where I'd start, reading the book, reading the forum (there's lots of things to learn here too). The thing is, you should start small with one square foot garden or possibly two. That will not feed your family of 3 and give you enough to use in the winter. It will give you experience. After you get going, then add more boxes as you go.

Thanks Hoggar, that online planner is just what I needed. I do plan on getting the book but just wanted to know what I could realistically do to get started in the next day or so. I will use those plans to get two gardens started this weekend!! I am so excited Very Happy
