New boxes planted, extra seedlings
I decided another freeze is unlikely, and it was time to move seedlings to their new home. My two new boxes are 2'x6' and 2'x7', more or less, made from free lumber from the side of the road. I put in 5 eggplants, about a dozen tomatoes, some peppers, summer & winter squash, and went ahead and planted corn, bush beans and pickle cukes.
I still have about a dozen pepper seedlings and half a dozen tomato plants left, and I'm really torn about planting them. I have one box yet to fill and plant, a 4'x5'(yes, I know Mel said 4x4, but again, it was free) and so many other things I want to plant. I can't bear to throw seedlings out. Maybe I'll build some small, portable boxes... or maybe I should give them away.

I give my extras away, with a good dose of, 'Hey have you heard about Square Foot Gardening"?
Re: New boxes planted, extra seedlings
I would be less reluctant to give them away if I knew what they were! I planted a variety mix of hot & sweet peppers, and a couple of different tomatoes, including one heirloom that I really want. I just know if I give my mystery seedlings away, they will turn out to be the very ones I most desired to have!
Next year and forever more, I will figure out a way to label seedlings!

Do you have a neighbor you could give them to? With the promise to share produce with each other? Then you could have a little bit of everything that grows...

Good suggestion. I think I will give a few to my next door neighbor.

I don't think Mel has an issue with a dimension over 4 feet but rather if it is more than 4 feet in both directions. It could be 4 feet by 300 feet if you wanted because you can reach all squares by the "by 4 feet" sides If you had a say 6 foot by 6 foot the centermost 4 squares would be hard to reach (over 2 squares reach any way to try to reach in)
