I think we are talking about two different products. And now that I said my store always had knowledgeable people, I think the display model was cedar 2X4's with the corners into which you just slide your 2X whatever.

This is the $59.95 Cedar bed from Home Depot. Wood is smooth and finished with a laquer or polyurethane coating. Sides are 8" high and only 1" thick.
The container packaging looked different from the posted pictures, but I don't have a foto. I think this is a different product.

Yes, different product.
However, I have purchased/used that one though and it was wonderful & well put together.
Definately worth the coin, from my experience with it.

We bought 2 of the beds and are pleased with them, although this is my first square foot garden so I suppose I don't have anything to compare it with. It was easy to put together and will do the job, hoping it will last more than this year after the comments I read on here. The boards weren't warped, although I haven't checked the second kit.
Here is our first one:

That looks nothing like the unit I checked out at HD down here. Those boards are much cleaner and better finished.
I honestly wouldn't have hesitated to pull the trigger for $40.00 for something that looked like that.
Scratching my head on how there could be that much variance in a product from the same manufacturer??
I checked everything they had in stock and all 4 of them had boards that looked like instruments of torture.
