Does anyone grow Hops?

Hubby wants me to do hops next year in the spring...and I was thinking of making an arbor out of them. Would PCV pipe be the economical way to go with building an arbor(bendy)? Would conduit work(not so bendy :scratch: )? Any ideas on this?

Do you grow hops?

Any tips?

What do you let them climb on?

We grew hops in half barrels with trellis netting going up to the roof of the house. Not the best way to go. Could not reach the blossoms to harvest so had to cut the vines at the base of the plant and pull down the trellis netting in order to harvest the hops. Rolling Eyes

Commercial growers use more like conduit. You can make your conduit arbor much more secure. I think the hops grow so high and thick pcv might try to bend and sway too much particularly if you intend to bend the pcv into an arch for your arbor.

Wondering if anyone in Zone 5 grows hops, your favorite varieties and what you use them for (besides home-brewing).
