When my son built my SFG box, he also built a protective wire cover for it to protect my Kitchen Herb Garden. Now, I'm glad he did because Peter Cottontail was looking for a snack tonight. (Not to worry that he went away hungry ... he nibbled the grass that hadn't been weed-wacked, yet)

Whoa! I better put the cat out! I don't have my screens on yet! That's a mighty nice cover he made you. Can I borrow him?

You did a great job with a nice deterrent against that little sweet monster.
Good job.

Wooh...Keep away from Peter. I think it would be look great if you put a frame holder to it won't be easily broken.

Cheers,

I agree with my son -- those covers are great! How did he get the chicken wire so flat? Mine are all... how do you say... wavy?

Thanks for the comments, everyone. So far, Tim is still correct: SFG - 1 Bunnies - 0 (grin)

Sorry I'm not going to be much help with how he got the wire cage to not be too wavy. He took a look at Mel's New SFG book pages for building boxes and protections. Then he just rolled out the chicken wire, used the heavy duty stapler to attach it to it's frame (it's not attached to the box) then formed it into pretty much the general shape you see. It's secured with zip-ties. The more we used, the better it held onto it's shape. We did a little bit of extra bending and shaping after getting it together, but not much.

I like that it's not heavy at all, I grab it from the top, near the center and just tip it off the SFG box onto it's side. My son just lifts the whole thing straight up from the top middle and sets the wooden frame down off to the side of the SFG box.

G'day Shoda,

Are you related to evan? It's really nice to have the whole family in the community. How's your herb garden?

Yes, Evan is my 11 year old son. He and his twin sister Dana took part of the 4-H gardening project this year. It was because of the project that I built the raised beds this year and chose to use the SFG method. The project leader is a Master Gardener and although she doesn't SFG, she recommended Mel's Mix.

I'll go for Mel's mix too. SFG method is most preferred by many herb gardener as far as my experience is concerned. So how you guys been gardening? Isn't for just a period of time or making it form part of your life.
