Picked and ate the first 'Early Scarlet Globe' radishes in last night's salad.

1st Harvest of 2017! We picked 2 Zucchini and 1 Cucumber. Our Tomatoes, Peppers and Eggplant are growing well and have small fruit. It will be a few weeks before they are ripe for picking. Soon it will be time for the 2nd planting of Cucumbers to ensure continuous harvesting during the Summer.
Enjoy,
Ryan and Nancy

Kale, in my salad at lunch! Added it to a "kit" from Krogers. Very tasty!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I'm still tremendously enjoying the flower buds and tender stems on last years kale and collards, raw and in smoothies and salads.
I wonder how long I'll get them. I'm thinking as long as they aren't allowed to go to seed it could be all year...?

Interesting. I have not seen buds on our kales or collards. We probably harvest them too soon.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I made a mistake and put salad dressing on my salad before I actually tasted the amaranth without dressing. So I will have to wait to really get a taste of just a leaf without the dressing.Scorpio Rising wrote:What does amaranth taste like?yolos wrote:Another salad. Still with the 'gus and greens buds, along with some lettuce & chives.
I'm trying to blanch & freeze some asparagus for Mom for when she comes next week but I keep eating them raw. FINALLY saved enough:

What are Hawaii folks harvesting?
I know what you mean about eating the asparagus fresh from the garden. Stuff directly from the garden in the moment really does have the best flavor. I have just recently gotten serious about losing some weight and for the first time not grazing on every pea pod and asparagus shoot. I know, not many calories, however it all adds up.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Tried something new this morning. Didn't have any taters for hash browns so cut up a zucchini that's been in the fridge a day or two. Sliced and quartered then fried with bacon, fresh eggs from my chickens and buttered Texas toast. Made a nice change to breakfast.

Used up the bowl, some fresh for breakfast, had the rest blended in home made kefir for lunch, green tops and imperfects went to the baby chickens. They polished it off in seconds.

Looks so terrific. Bet this tasted wonderful. I put mine in cups with water and wrap the tops with wet paper towels and plastic wrap till there is enough to make whatever. Sautéed in part butter part coconut oil as a side dish with eggs is heavenly. Cream of asparagus soup is great too. I have yet to roast on the grill which someone around here a few yrs back use to talk about and drive me crazy because it sounded so good.CapeCoddess wrote:Still with the 'gus and greens buds, along with some lettuce & chives.

I have roasted it in the oven too, tossed with some EVOO, salt, pepper and herbs of choice (fresh thyme is good, or rosemary) and viola!llama momma wrote:Looks so terrific. Bet this tasted wonderful. These berries were from daughter plants I saved over the past 2 years or so. The berries are getting smaller for sure. Still tasty. But you know how you grow some superior stuff and then compare it to other years and or laugh at the quality of supermarket produce? Next Spring will start with new purchased plants and in a different bed. Want to recapture the fun of super size berries from fresher stock the following year(s).

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Last year's frozen yellow squash, along with fresh asparagus, to accompany some cod.
I did find some plantable certified seed garlic for planting now! I'd like to be able to grow my own to last an entire year!

Strawberries, chive flowers, brassica florets (mostly from kale), mizuna, spinach (variety = Dash - bolted first/worst of the types I planted), salad burnet, and lettuces (Lunix, Flashy Butteroak, Hyper Red Rumple Wave, and a volunteer oakleaf type).

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
The last of the peas, purple beans (yummy), Marvel of 4 Seasons lettuce (not bad), and what Hubby proclaimed to be the best radish and carrot he ever ate. I also grabbed some arugula, chard, and turnip greens, but we didn't like any of them so I gave them to the rabbit. We'll try the chard cooked, when it gets a little bigger. If we still don't like it, the rabbit can have it all.
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Beetles, Raspberry dressing?
CN, I still haven't planted any carrots, radishes or Marvel of Four Seasons.
