Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We have some sunny days ahead. I need to get to work and get the garden cleaned up and the garlic planted before this weather ends. I got started today but still lots to do.

Nice! I need to plan on where to put my garlic for this year. I had my first year last year, love it! But it gets big! I didn’t really plan well for that....
Warmer than normal here, gonna rain tomorrow.

Oh yeah....guess it's getting to be garlic time....where to plant, where to plant...
Today started out cloudy and warm, but the temp is sliding downward very quickly! I need another layer everytime I go outside.

I was thinking the very same thing ... where to plant? Is it OK to plant garlic in the same squares as last year?CapeCoddess wrote:Oh yeah....guess it's getting to be garlic time....where to plant, where to plant...

TD,
I've had better crops--so far--when I plant garlic in the same bed for consecutive years.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
In the mid-40's this morning. But will be warming up later this week. Weather guy says we'll be on a roller coaster for several days...
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
From the look of some of my now wilting veggie plants we must have gone below freezing last night. Going forward the lows for the next few days will be in the 40s and 50s F and the highs in the mid-hi 60s going up to 70F for the coming weekend.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Got down to the upper 40s this morning. Some of my plants didn't like it. Picked what will be the last of the eggplant and transplanted kale this morning.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
That sounds like us. If my summer plants can get through a couple of nights in the mid 40s, they'll be good for at least another 10 days. Fingers crossed.AtlantaMarie wrote:In the mid-40's this morning. But will be warming up later this week. Weather guy says we'll be on a roller coaster for several days...
Still hot in Arizona
99 in my backyard today, 93 in the front. Cooling off to the mid-60s overnight. This is the weather I moved here for. Beautiful!
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Love the cool nights. On all but the hottest days, I can still get up early and get in at least an hour of gardening before running for the couch and the a/c. This past summer was brutal, however. Was it unusually bad for you, too?LizDTM wrote:99 in my backyard today, 93 in the front. Cooling off to the mid-60s overnight. This is the weather I moved here for. Beautiful!
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Hi temp today is going to be in the mid 60s F with 70F coming later in the week.
This may seem ridiculous but I will be taking the Camry in to get winter tires installed this afternoon. I'm doing it earlier than usual because the place where I get it done will store my summer tires for free if I do the switch this week. As well, the snow removal company that I use said they will be coming around starting this weekend to put up their marker stakes on their customers' driveways. Winter is approaching. It will soon be time to start winter gardening using the Aerogarden as well as microgreens.

Suz!
Yes, Suz, this summer was horrifyingly hot. We always have our hottest weather right around the equinox. Then July is cooler (still hot but more like 110 instead of 120) and more humid. But this summer, mid-July we were back up at 120 again for a week. All my plants I babied through the June heat just looked at me and said, "Sorry, we're out." And I thought I was going to die trying to do the afternoon watering. Brutal.
Today it was 98 in the back, 93 in the front. Mid 60s overnight.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Hot dry and Santa Ana winds. Seems like we've had them for a month. Basically, the wind pattern breaks for a couple days and then goes back. Yesterday my car read 110 sitting in the sun, today a touch cooler. Tomorrow cooler slight ocean breeze, then Saturday back to the Santa Ana winds with projected temps for Monday at 100+
Yippie, 100 degrees and 40+ mph furnace winds with 10% humidity blowing out of the recently burned areas.
Yea, I keep forgetting to mention that, Santa Ana winds are hot, compression of the high pressure system and blowing through the canyons and over the foothills heats the winds hotter than the surrounding air, so it's kind of like standing in 100 degree weather and then pointing a blow dryer at your face on high and max heat.

Yep... Just another reason to stay right here! I can't imagine what y'all go thru on a yearly basis.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Santa Ana winds can be brutal and AZ summers are, well, ridiculous. And, here TD is putting on snow tires.
A chance of rain on Friday here. It would be nice to have smoke-free air for a few hours.

I'm from the Midwest originally
I grew up in Michigan. I would never move back. As must as I sweat in the summer, you don't shovel sunshine, you don't get stuck in sunshine drifts, and you don't have to salt sunshine (causing the bottom of your car to rust out). Yep, I'll stay here.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
I LOVE IT! I just stole this perfect comeback for our hot summers comments. (I was born near Buffalo, NY, but moved to Florida before I was old enough for shovel duty. )LizDTM wrote: As must as I sweat in the summer, you don't shovel sunshine,
Shovel duty
The last year I was in Michigan was during the depression in '80-'81. My workplace was laying off people right and left. I bought some new clothes, got in my car to go to a New Year's party, and backed into a drifted ditch trying to get out the driveway. Had to shovel myself out, ruined my new clothes, and missed the party. When the union offered unpaid leaves of absence, I took one and moved out here.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Ottawa, Ontario weather continues to be amazing. It's October 21st and I am out working in the garden wearing shorts and a very thin short sleeve shirt. I realize that for some of you that description may paint a very scary image of a crazy old man. Sorry for that but we are getting close to Halloween.

Damp, dreary low 50's
It was raining when I got up this morning. Not that we don't need the rain, just wanted to sit outside and enjoy the morning. The highest temp I saw on my truck was 53 degrees F. The sun poked out just before it set. Leaves are changing colors, squirrels are packing nuts, and our two dogs were "fluffing" up their bed. Forecasts says 43 for tonight.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
10 days of perfect summer weather in our forecast. Looks like I'll get another pattypan squash and fingers crossed that all those blossoms open on my tromboncino. I might even get a cherry tomato, too.
