We are off and growing
We decided to take the chance, roll the dice and plant our garden box on March the 8th. We are playing the odds. It came a very late frost last year and surely it wont twice in a row. We are hoping that for once the Algoreans will be right and it will be a warm spring. Here is the picture filled post of or early attempt.

We will let yall know how it goes.

Cappy, Here's hoping you two do not get a late frost. Don't you love the spring smell of flowering citrus. So heady.
Re: We are off and growing
Oh, Cappy.... Listen to your pecan... But I'm hoping for the best for you!
We're showing a couple of nights towards the end of the month that will be in the mid-30's.

My weather station shows 30 to 32 degrees on March 30 + 31. Rain and clouds at least 5 days this week.

Re: We are off and growing
Thanks yall when ya plant early ya are either a hero or a goat. If they do well we can brag to our friends. If they frost we will be ribbed for it. rain for 5 days no problem thats why they are 12 inch beds. if the low is 30 still no problem the straw mulch should keep em warm. I don't wanna defend my gamble too much though in case I strike out.

I hope the old Pecan is just nervous and will bud soon and you all will have a wonderful spring!! Loved the photos!

Re: We are off and growing
It is official now in South Louisiana the pecan trees are budding even ole Mr leaned over Pecan has opening buds so I guess my 2 and a half week gamble paid off.
Re: We are off and growing
Good for you Cappy!
Sometimes I plant veg's earlier than usual depending on the weather and the spring itch!

Great job Cappy!
I am WAY behind the curve this year. My DH purchase boards for new boxes a week and a 1/2 ago but was not feeling well so they did not get built or filled. He has been out of town for the past week. First in Houston for business then a long weekend at our camp on Toledo Bend for a fishing tournament.
DH arrived home an hour ago. I fixed a light lunch for him and he is now taking a nap. I REALLY hope I an get enough of his time to help me build, fill and plant my boxes some time this coming week.
In the past I have frequently planted starts in mid March. More success than failure.
Glad we did not have one of those crazy, late freezes. It was a good gamble because even a light freeze would not have caused serious damage to your starts.
Thanks for sharing the great pictures.
