All you beekeepers with your networks:

Does anyone know a beekeeper in Las Vegas who will gladly take a tree swarm for free, or take them and keep them without destroying them?

They should Google beekeepers in their area for someone local. I know there are beekeepers there.

I tried and could only find 1 and left a message. The other number was a bee removal and destroy. This person told me that LV is a little different than other areas in the country.

I was hoping someone had a phone number for someone in the apiary business.

First I'd check with your county extension office. They keep lists of beekeepers who remove swarms. Another resource is online to find bee clubs: http://www.beeculture.com/content/whoswho/ Although, sadly, Nevada has only one club listed.

Another thing is to check local produce stands and find honey with beekeepers' name and address on it. (That's the only kind I ever buy anyway, most store honey is Chinese and much of it is faked.)

Pollinator,  All of this happened at my step-son's a Saturday in Las Vegas.  I didn't know how futile my online search and phone calls would be to find someone happy to collect a resting swarm.

Yikes!!! I have nothing to offer help here, but that would have me running to a hotel ASAP. But I'm a wimp. Props for checking here for help first!!! I hope you get them removed soon!

They will find a home for themselves.

Am I missing something?  That looks to be a tiny swarm compared with those I've seen in the past.  Usually the swarms are about 10-12" in diameter where they connect to a limb or other structure, and they dangle like an old man's beard for 2, 3 or 4'.

Here in TX we have pure africanized bees and colonies that have been invaded by them.  I think most people here worry about the danger of the aggressive behavior.  We hear of deaths from attacks occasionally.  I wonder if that is a problem in LV/NV.

They weren't displaying any aggressive behavior (AHB) towards my S-son or his car. It was mid day and they were just hanging in the shaded interior. He figured they would move on come evening or when the scouts found a new home. He said it was only the size of a soft ball or mush ball.

This is only my guess, but because of the lack of lush food sources, cultured or natural, the area can't support large bee populations. Also, the AHB has moved into LV. The day before, a man and his dog were attacked by AHB and the dog died.

I'm no bee expert or even amateur. Everything I know about bees I learned here on the Forum, Animal Planet and when I was an inspector for the health Dept before retirement.

Don't know if you are still having the problem with the bees. I was told that bees following a queen will take pit stops and do the type of behavior shown in your photos. It can happen for a few days until the queen moves again. We had it happen where I work, but they were the Africanized bees. They had gathered on a fence post right next to the employee smoking area. No one could go out there until they were gone because they went after people. Then one day they were all gone.

HLM, The swarm was just resting for a couple of days. Some bee keepers will collect easy-to-access swarms for free and that is what I was looking for. I found that in Las Vegas they all charge over $100. These were friendly bees so my son-in-law just left them be until they were ready to move on.
