I'm checking in for my semiannual visit. I'm so pitiful. I lurk quite frequently, but just don't get around to saying hi. My tomatoes are finally ripening & I'm doing a happy dance.

We moved our garden this year, added more boxes and changed design. Everything is growing great and I actually did a blog post with pictures at Diggin' With Dixie!

I hope everyone is having a good season so far.

They're lobed but not quite as much as I sometimes see Brandywine, and their orange color is unusual. What kind are they?

Rumi Banjan is a new variety I got from Winter Sown; they have been the earliest ones. It is a medium sized, somewhat ribbed tomato that was brought to the U.S. in 1937 from Afghanistan and is thin skinned & very juicy. It is bright yellow with a pinkish blush on the bottom. The taste was pretty good, especially for the first tomato of the season, but a little too tart for me. (That doesn't mean I had any trouble eating them!) .

I'm so jealous. My Brandywine's are just starting to put on flower buds. My Roma's aren't showing any signs of budding yet. I only have 1 pint jar of tomatoes left from last year's canning, so I guess I'm gonna have to buy Mad

my tomatoes till mine come in August.

Does anyone in the Region grow Arkansas Traveler? I'm very, very impressed by the 3 I've eaten yesterday and today.

I grew them in 2012 and 2013. Loved the flavor and they grew well in the southern heat. I got the seeds from a place that specialized in hot weather tomatoes. No seed this year, but for sure next year.

Oh Dixie...your gardening blog is just lovely! I learned about sweet peas and larkspur, both of which I have never grown. They're so beautiful! And I LOVE the 1x6 boxes. Must make tomato growing easier I'll bet.

The 1x6 boxes are the best idea I've had, even though it seems like a waste of money for lumber. Our summers are so humid that air circulation is an absolute must for tomatoes, & then they still get blight. I think it must be bred into the tomato seeds. I've never had fire blight before, but the Rumi Banjan's have it and they are the only ones. Some of the boxes may have one or two with a few yellow leaves & the other types have none. I labeled my plants, so need to check which ones are doing the best.
