Spinach Growing Too Fast? Empty Spinach Growing Too Fast?

With the current heat wave, I've almost literally been watching my spinach grow! About every half-hour, it's bigger than before!

Does this mean it's getting ready to bolt? Or can I attribute such growth to my Mel's Mix?

Of course, I water daily. Evenings are cool.

I suspect that it may be starting to bolt (I hope not!). When most spinach varieties start growing quickly, and the shape of the leaves change on the new growth, it is bolting. The new leaves have more of a triangle shape instead of rounded tips on Bloomsdale and Olympia types before they go to seed.

I have read on spinach lately and apparently it is not the heat so much as the length of the days that makes spinach bolt.
So if that is true then June is the worst month to be growing spinach. THE very longest day of the year coming up in a few weeks.
However planting more right away will set you up for a very nice fall spinach, which apparently tastes much better than spring spinach.

Last year, I planted spinach during the last week in July. It grew and produced beautifully!

I'll keep an even closer eye on this year's crop (Monstreaux de Viroflay) and start picking leaves for salads, as necessary. Of course, I'd do that anyway.... I just planted some Bloomsdale the other day.
