Palmetto State newbie
Hey!
I'm pretty much right on the 8a/8b line of SC and looking forward to having a garden this year. I'm sure I'm biting off more than I can chew with regard to SFG; I want to plant so many different vegies, herbs fruit trees, too.... Not only can I not handle our heat and humidity, I'm probably in serious denial about how much work, a garden as I wish it, will be! But oh well, we'll see what happens!
Here's a picture of a 20+ year old polaroid that shows my G'daddy's SFG! It was actually here, at this house- in my backyard, but on the opposite side of the yard. The oak is so huge now that the other side of the yard gets very little sun anymore. Not great quality but I didn't feel like scanning....
Thanks to everyone for making so much info available!!! You Rock!
Ok, I don't know if this is working... supposedly I uploaded the images but don't see them in the preview... Another time if it isn't here....

Welcome, You may have to have several posts or just some time under your belt, before you can post pics.
Afer you get the beds built/filled you would be amazed. I will put a chair in my garden this yr. Just water, and decide where You can plant that extra plant. No weeding, digging,
Jo

time and heat issues
My bet is that if you do the SFG correctly, you will be pleasantly surprised at just how LITTLE work the garden will cause. Most of the "work" will be in the form of doing things that are pleasant, and not the drudgery tasks like weeding and the like.
Welcome to the forums. I envy you your heat zone. I'm at the cusp of 8A and B also, but my "heat zone" is remarkably colder, which can be an issue.

Sorry new members have to wait 7 days to post images. We look forward to seeing your photo in a week or so.
How exciting to start an ALL NEW SFG with the memories of your GDad's SFG in the same yard.
Have you already read the ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING book that was published in 2006? It is sooooooo much easier than then old double digging and amending your soil as well as weeding from the 80's model. Once you have completed the initial set up, building boxes, mixing Mel's Mix and filling the boxes, you will find that gardening is no longer the chore you remember.
Good Luck and keep us posted on your progress.
