Can I cover garlic with a tarp until Spring? Don't know if that will kill the garlic for good but my purpose for the tarp is to preserve Mel's Mix. Unfortunately there are green garlic shoots poking through 10+ inches of straw. I could leave the 2 squares of garlic uncovered and lay tarp over the other empty 14 squares? First time growing garlic, pretty confused at this point......toss garlic out altogether?

You should be fine with the 10" of straw.

Garlic is very cold tolerant; don't worry about temps. Cover your garlic with your tarp if that's easiest. Worst case, when you uncover in early spring, you'll have garlic with white lieaves! They will green up in a week or so.

Thank you so much guys, I'm leaving the straw and put a tarp over the whole thing too. Really appreciate your help!

Rooster

Fortunately you don't have to go outside! Unfortunately if your chickens and ducks venture out they'll be blown out of town. Had a couple of 40 mph gusts here last night and that was enough for me. Amazing to me your garlic is fine with those temps and all that snow.

Ugh! The wind is terrible! Even with the flue shut on our fireplace, we have dust everywhere from the draft.
I haven't seen a duck or chicken venture out all day. The horses won't come out of the barn either Razz
The only nice thing about the wind is, you can finally see the ground after being covered with snow for weeks. It's all mud, but I'm sick of looking at white! Shocked

Holy Moly Rooster just found out there is going to be 25-30mph winds tomorrow - NewYears Day - with gusts of 50mph. My girl llamas won't even stick their noses out of the barn. Glad I turned over the compost heaps and watered things down earlier today.
Guess my place is going to be something like yours -- but without the snow
