Re: Apologies
I'm glad you spoke up; I'm sure there are others who haven't discovered them yet, so let's review.
"P.M." in the green nav bar at the top of every forum page stands for Personal Message. Using P.M.s we have the ability to communicate in private with another forum member. Nobody, not even admins, have access to your P.M.s.
There are 3 ways we might be notified that we have received a PM. This animated gif will always flash in the place of P.M. in the green nav bar. It's intentionally obnoxious, so I put it in a spoiler. (Unfortunately, there's no way to have an audio alert)
The second way we might be notified is by a pop-up window. In the picture below, No. 2 is what the pop-up window looks lilke. No.1 is the flashing gif from above that happened to be white when I took the screen shot.
In order to get the pop-up window, two options must be selected properly. The picture below shows how to allow pop-up windows on the forum. 3. and 5. must say yes. This picture shows the default settings of a new member. If you haven't changed anything, then you have the correct settings to get a pop-up window. This is the only pop-up window used on the forum.
Pop-ups can be annoying (spam content) on other websites, so browsers have an option to ban pop-ups. If you have your browser set for no pop-ups at all, you won't receive your PM notification pop-up. Fortunately, on most browsers you will be able to make an exception for https://squarefoot.forumotion.com
The third way we might be notified of a new PM is via the e-mail that you registered on the forum with. In the picture above, No.4 is where that option is selected. The default is yes.
If you click on P.M. or the flashing NEW P.M. picture, you will get the window below. The green leaf means you haven't read that PM yet.
If you want to play around to see how everything works, you can send yourself a P.M., and reply to yourself too!

Re: Apologies
Call me "corny" but I'm always excited to see that obnoxious flashing sign.
