Alpine strawberries are different.

Does anyone grow Alpine strawberries?
I started them 3 years ago and I'm enjoying them, tho they are terribly small.
They are tart but a nice little snack when working in the garden. They produce a little all summer long.

Here's a photo of a normal-size Quinault on the left near the quarter and the Alpines on the right near the nickel. The yellow ones are pineapple strawberries, and yes, they taste like pineapples.

They do spread, but not as wildly as regular berries, keeping a rather neat mound year after year but after 3 years they will start to wear out so its good to allow runners to take their place.

I have a small bed of them beside the coldframe.

I actually have them growing wild all through my back and side yard! If you let them continue ripening on the vine a little longer than you think you should (and if the birds will leave them alone), you're in for a wonderful surprise. They're as sweet as candy when they're perfectly ripe.
