Ants? Empty Ants?

Post  scmelik 5/30/2011, 6:57 pm

I went out just a bit ago to check on my plants and my box is filled with ants. Should I be worried or are ants passive?

I found this article that might help answer your questions about ants in the garden. Some are okay and some you definitely want to get rid of.

http://www.veggiegardener.com/are-ants-in-the-vegetable-garden-a-bad-thing/

I don't mind the little black ant (Monomorium minimum) I see in my SFG, but they are a pest in the strawberries and in my kitchen!

The article pretty much touched up on it. But if the ants are crawling all over your plants, it appears you have aphids. I had a problem a few weeks ago and went to my nursery and they told me the problem was the aphids and the "honey dew" they leave behind. So need to start tackling the aphid issue. If the ants are just wandering around the ground, wouldn't worry so much.
