I just used one of the seed catalogs that are mailed to me. It was called Farmers seed. I went on their web site. I hope they are good. a few of the sites I looked at the prices were more than this catalog, so i went with them. I'll take a peek at Stark Bros. tonight too.

Oooh - thank you! I see the Sparkles in there - you all have me convinced on those.

It's too late in the season for me to start them now, but does anyone know if it's possible to plant them in, say, the fall, and let them hibernate over the winter until next spring? Or do you pretty much have to plant them in the spring?

Why is it too late to start them now? As long as you keep them watered till they are well established and maybe a shade cloth for the hottest part, they should be ok started now. You pick off the blooms the first year anyway so it isn't like your to late for a harvest.

It has been a long time since I had to plant strawberries. I transferred mine from a ground bed to this one about 4 years ago. This is their permanent home. Someday hubby will have his train track running down the middle. That is why the bed is 5 feet wide. I will be able to reach in from either side to harvest and clean up.

Well, pretty much it's too late because my beds are all accounted for now and fenced in so I don't have a spot. I was thinking maybe after my early summer crops are thru - maybe mid-summer or even fall, re-using one of the boxes for the strawberries. Since they don't produce the first year, I wondered if I could crunch them in and get the first year over with. I do wish I had set aside a box for strawberries but just didn't think about it. What I really need are about 10 more boxes - ha.

Ah well. What's another million more things to think about...

Does anyone use the Strawberry Topsy Turvy thing? I had my strawberry bareroots (10 of them) in one and only one bareroot has grown leaves so far. I gave up on it and just transplanted all of my bareroots in clear plastic tub to see if I can get them all to grow. Next year I hope to have a nice strawberry mound!
