Pallet shopping.. Empty Pallet shopping..

Post  BackyardBirdGardner 4/20/2011, 5:06 pm

Home Depot has apparently gotten smart. They now reuse pallets in my area. They offered to sell them to me for $15 each. Pardon me while I laugh.

I'm sure I can find free ones being discarded somewhere. Anyone have success? Mind sharing where you found yours?

Thankso mucho.

I got mine from my local building supply guy. I had just bought some 2x4's and such. He said he had some that had to be returned, but there was a pile in the corner that were fair game...

I work at a local building supplier. We get some pallets that we are charged for and have to return, but there are usually plenty of others for people to take. Less we have to throw in the burn pile.

I tend to drive behind stores and manufacturers looking for pallets. I hit a gold mine recently with a company that makes machines to manufacture nano parts. They get machine parts delivered on pallets of various sizes and sometimes in VERY sturdy wooden boxes. I picked up a nice one that is 6 inches deep and 3' X 3' and made of what looks like yellow pine, but I'm not sure, that thing is HEAVY!!! Shocked

I work in a paint store. The majority of our pallets we have to return but we always have a lot that we don't for various reasons....poor condition, odd sizes, etc. Those we pile out by the fence for people to help themselves to.

Grocery stores, garden supply stores, building centers.......the list goes on. Just drive down the back lanes if you have them or past the loading docks of various businesses. When you see stacks of them just go in and ask. "Ask and ye shall receive."

At our store, even though we have to send a lot of them back, if people come in and ask and we have lots, we will very often just give them a few. Sometimes the ones to give away aren't very nice.

I've just been outside to find out why there is a guy in a hi-vis jacket walking past my back door. We don't have house numbers here just house names so it's very difficult for delivery drivers to find the right house. Having had my second coffee of the day I thought I'll ask him if his firm can deliver me four. That's better than saying "hey mate do us a favour and fetch me four for free" So he volunteered to drop me four off when he gets back off holiday next week. Hope he remembers. So, if like me you haven't got transport but there is a local firm that delivers supplies on pallets that's maybe a way to get some.

Try the back of your local Wal-Mart or Sams club?

Mine simply has masses of them at the rear where the trucks load.
