What kind of fruit is this? Persimmon
Walking by the side of a road I noticed one of these fruits on the asphalt. I then looked and there were more on the tree. Some were ripe and would easily come off, others were not ripe and would not come off easily. I picked some of the ripe one. I was wondering what kind of fruit is this? What is it used for? Seems edible and sweet. Thanks.

Look like Persimmons.

They do look like persimmons but they are much smaller than what I have seen in stores. They are also very ripe unlike what is in stores. Another thing is one of them was very ripe and had been squashed and I could see multiple oblong seeds from it.

Those are domestic Persimmons, not the native, wild ones like we have growing out in our pasture. The store throws out the ripe ones.
The ones in your picture look just like the ones under my trees that didn't get picked to make jelly. The raccoons & possums love them, and try to get them before I do.

Do the seeds look like this?

Yes the seeds did look like something in your picture. There were 3 or 4 of them in the one that was squashed.
