Wow, you are really lucky it turned. That burnt over area looks like it will grow back easily when the rain comes (if they ever do again), I don't see any tree stubs. So did the fire affect the high power lines?

I am very relieved you are ok, and home again. May the healing begin!

Some of the cats were evacuated and went to shelters. They were not happy campers. A few of them went with us and spent the week locked up in various bathrooms -- also not happy campers. One cat stayed with Bob and spent the week in cat heaven, with total freedom to roam (but still complained about it). The rest stayed home and never knew they were in danger.  Rolling Eyes  (Nobody was terrified but us  affraid ).

Okay, here's where we stand, now. Asparagus, fig trees, and redwoods survived. Bay plants are gone. In-ground artichokes died, but this little guy in a gallon pot (that I grew from seed) survived

Why can't I post pics?  Mad

Well, this will now be a boring post.

One little kale plant survived.

Jicama made it through.

Butterfly host garden was decimated.

Nope. We got soooo lucky. Now the problem is foul air. We have to wear special masks in order to go outside, and there's no telling how long that will last with the Mendicino fire so close by. Talk about the summer from hell.  affraid

And your improved soil is still there, so you will be starting from a better point both in resources and in knowledge.

{HUGS} it's a lot to process and deal with.

Thanks, Turan. We are exhausted -- mentally, physically, and emotionally. Can't even drive by the devastation. It's just too much to process.  Sad

There's nothing like "dirt therapy" when we need an attitude adjustment.

Interesting sidebar to this awful air quality: our figs are awful this year. I'm throwing them out, they're so bad. I'm guessing it's because we haven't seen the sun in 3 weeks -- just hazy, smoky air. It's bright enough to keep things from getting leggy or dying, and it's also kept the temps down a few degrees, but the fig trees are definitely not happy campers. Last night's news said that Mendocino fire could last for another 3 1/2 weeks. 3 - Butterfly Junction - Page 19 671790 I sure hope the wind shifts, soon. We really need a break.

Smoky! 4-5 miles visibility for me and for you. I notice you have a new 80-acre Hirz Fire on the other side of I-5. There are 4,700 personnel battling your Carr fire - 177,450 acres - 48% contained

The "twin" fires, The Ranch and the River, total 250,000 acres burned.

My Ferguson Fire is 95,104 Acres and 79% contained. Yosemite National Park lives to see another day.
