Bush Beans Empty Bush Beans

Something is eating my bush beans,  I planted a square about two weeks ago and I've noticed them coming up but the tops are being eaten just as soon as they break ground or maybe before.  What can cause this??

I noticed that something ate two of mine also.  I suspect the bunny or the chipmunk.  One day I checked and was pleased to see that eight of the nine in my square had poked up about 1 - 1.5 inches.  Two days later, two of them were gone.

I have replaced my cage topper over my box but it is a pain with the garlic growing!  Hopefully after the plants mature and I have to take the cage off, they will not be as much of a lure.  Did not have that happen last year.

Bean seedlings on the Cape are getting eaten right and left. I found a slug in mine this morning and they are all pretty well decimated. Friend of mine was losing his to some kind of worm & is trapping them with beer.

If it's a slug problem, put a ring of coffee grounds around each plant - the caffeine affects their neuro system and the slugs won't cross that line of coffee grounds.  Starbucks gives coffee grounds away free.

Mine were being eaten by pill bugs. I treated the ground with sluggo plus, but to be safe I let the next round sprout in little cups sitting on top of the soil and then gently transplanted

My carrot seedlings have been eaten before by something just as you described.  After multiple attempts at ruling things out, but never finding a critter, I had to guess that it was a caterpillar-type of pest.  So I had to spray the tiny seedlings so they could get big enough, with a general all-purpose spray of your choice (there are some organic, I think).

However, I DID have luck with something else, although it was more time-consuming.  As soon as those little 2-leaf seedlings sprouted up, I covered them with plastic 8-oz. baby bottle liners (playtex is one name brand).  I kind of buried them in the dirt and it was like a little greenhouse.  It worked!
